TNPSC Group 4 Syllabus & Exam Pattern 2021 Pdf

TNPSC Group-4, is a state-level exam conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission every year. This examination is for the aspirants who want to join the civil services of Tamil Nadu. The TNPSC Group 4 notification 2021 also contains the TNPSC Group 4 exam pattern and marking scheme for the written exam.

TNPSC Group 4 is conducted for the recruitment of eligible candidates for filling up various vacant positions of Village Administrative Officer (VAO), Junior Assistant (Non – Security & Security), Bill Collector, Grade-I, Field Surveyor, Draftsman, Typist, Steno-Typist (Grade-III).

TNPSC Group 4 Exam Pattern

Before moving into the preparation zone, candidates must review the examination pattern for TNPC Group 4. The exam pattern describes the framework of the test. Students get a brief idea about the structure, sectional break-up and the marking scheme of the examination.

  1. There are 75 questions in the General studies section.
  2. There are 100 questions in the General English/Tamil section.
  3. There are 25 questions in the Aptitude and Mental Ability Skills.

Here is a sectional break-up along with the number of questions, marking scheme and other relevant parameters.

Two types of question papers will be set.

Type- 1: General Studies (75 items) + Aptitude & Mental Ability Test (25 items) and General English (100 items).

Type-2: General Studies (75 items) + Aptitude & Mental Ability Test (25 items) and General Tamil (100 items)

Out of the two types, the candidates are given the choice to opt for any one of them. The sections wise syllabus has been explained below in detail.

1. TNPSC Group 4 Syllabus: General Studies

General Studies is the most common section among all the government exam across the nation, especially in civil services exams.

General Studies

The TNPSC Group IV General Studies comprises of the following subjects:

  1. General Science
  2. Current Events
  3. Geography
  4. History and Culture of India and Tamil Nadu
  5. Indian Polity
  6. Indian Economy
  7. Indian National Movement

 

UNIT I: GENERAL SCIENCE

  • Physics: Nature of Universe, Mechanics, and properties of matter, physical quantities, standards and units, Force, motion and energy, Electricity, Magnetism, and Electronics -Heat, light and sound.
  • Chemistry: Elements, and Compounds, Fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, Acids, bases and salts
  • Botany: Classification of living organisms, Nutrition
  • Zoology: Blood and blood circulation, Animals, plants and human life, Reproductive system
  • Ecology: Health and hygiene, Human diseases, prevention and remedies

UNIT II: CURRENT EVENTS

  • History: The latest diary of national events, National symbols, a profile of States, awards & honors’, India and its neighbours, eminent persons & places in news, sports & games, books & authors.
  • Political Science: Public awareness & General administration, welfare-oriented govt. schemes, their utility, public elections, political parties, and political system in India.
  • Geography: Geographical landmarks
  • Economics: Current socio-economic problems

UNIT III: GEOGRAPHY

  • Earth and Universe, Monsoon, weather & climate, Water resources, Rivers in India, Soil, minerals & natural resources, Forest & wildlife, social geography, population, density and distribution, Agricultural pattern, Transport including surface transport & communication, Natural calamities, Disaster Management.

UNIT IV: HISTORY AND CULTURE OF INDIA AND TAMIL NADU

  • Indus valley civilization-Guptas, Delhi Sultans, Mughals and Marathas-Age of Vijayanagaram and the bahmanis-South Indian History-Culture and 2 Heritage of Tamil people-India since independence
  • Characteristics of Indian Culture-Unity in diversity –race, colour, language, custom-India-as secular state-Growth of rationalist, Dravidian movement in TN-Political parties and populist schemes.

UNIT V: INDIAN POLITICS

  • Constitution of India and its salient features, the Union, States and territories, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental duties, Human rights.
  • The legislature of India: Union legislature, Parliament, State Executive, State Legislature, assembly, Local government, Panchayat Raj
  • Judiciary in India: The process of law, Elections, Corruption in public life, Anti-corruption measures, Consumer protection forms, CVC, Lok adalats, Ombudsman, CAG- – Right to information- Empowerment of women- Consumer protection forms.

UNIT VI: INDIAN ECONOMY

Nature of Indian economy, Five-year plan models, Land reforms & agriculture, Application of science in agriculture, social sector problems. Economic trends in Tamil Nadu, industrial growth, Rural welfare-oriented programmers, population, education, health, employment, poverty.

  • National Renaissance, the emergence of national leaders, M. Gandhi, J. Nehru, R.N. Tagore, Role of Tamil Nadu in the freedom struggle
